Marie Dessuant : Deserto

Deserto is a contemporary and beautiful single flower vase created by French designer Marie Dessuant.

Using the traditional know-how of Veneto blown
glass, the vase shape is inspired by the last drop in an empty bottle, highlighting the idea of a
desert and its of lack of water.

This piece will be exhibited at the Katara Art Center during the Shared Glass exhibition organized by Fabrica and VCUQatar’s MFA.DESIGN (Master of Fine Arts in Design Studies program), from December 1st 2011 to January 7th 2012.

Blown glass – Dimensions : 18 x 18 x 36 cm

About the designer : Marie Dessuant was born in 1984 in Paris. In 2008, she graduated with distinction from the Ecole Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg in product design (MA). She wrote a thesis about ‘Wandering in Daily Life’ and designed a collection entitled ‘Objets Vagues’. She then worked in Shanghai, collaborating with studios like Naço architecture and EXH. In 2010 she was awarded the Cinna-Ligne Roset design award ‘révélateur de talents’ for the ‘étagère de coin’, which is now produced by Cinna – Ligne Roset. From October 2010 to October 2011 she was a resident at Fabrica, the Benetton Group Communication Research Centre, in Italy. She lives and Works in Paris. She envisions design as a way to observe her surroundings, a way of seeing, a way of showing. She experiments with a large scope of practices (product, furniture, space, graphic design, drawing, concept…) Beyond these forms, she is trying to develop new ways of interacting with objects. Using new typologies or modified details in traditional product, she is trying not to impose anything to the user, not to say too much, not to be too narrative. Her projects aim to raise questions rather than to give solutions.
