Golran : Decolorized series – Carpet Reloaded collection

For this winter 2012 edition of Le Prix des Découvertes,  Flodeau has been chosen by Paris fair Maison&Objet to select the best design project from the Éditeurs sector gathering the top upholstery fabric and wallpaper editors.

Les Découvertes (i.e.the discoveries) rewards the most impressive new products, created by newcomers to the scene. I chose to award the distinction to the Italian house Golran for their astonishing Decolorized carpets, from their latest collection Carpet Reloaded.

Carpet Reloaded came about from a great inspiration. This exclusive limited-edition collection brings together vintage and genuine carpets for the first and the second half of the 20th century, mainly originating from Russia, The Middle East and Anatolia, and reinterprets and reinvents them in a new, surprising ways.

Past meets present in a mix of ancient manufacturing know-how and contemporary design.

Models have been decolorized and re-dyed, unthreaded and woven anew, cut and sewn back together by experts weavers who respectfully worked the original materials (cotton, wool, angora, black goat’s wool, hemp, mohair and linen).

The Decolorized series underwent a decolorization process and then were re-dyed with natural, mainly monocromatic colors. Each of the dyed wool gives unexpected, unforeseen results depending on the type and the state of the wool originally used.

Each carpet is one of a kind. Their dimensions range from 160 cm x 100 cm to 410 cm x 320 cm.
