Paul Rudolph : New York urban retreat

In 1995, I was 17 and it was my first time visiting the Big Apple. At that time, German photographer Gunter Sachs was the owner of this unique house located in New York City Upper East Side.

Believe it or not, but I had the chance of discovering this place and stay there for a few days (Till and Marion thank you!). Incredible memories of a stunning house with Andy Wahrol’s art hanging on almost every wall, a remote-controlled fireplace (!) and framed photographs of guests such as Liza Minnelli, Andy Warhol, Bianca Jagger, Brigitte Bardot, Savador Dali and Sean Connery who used to party there.

Built in 1936 and redesigned during the 60′s following the Bauhaus movement by Paul Rudolph, this 4-storey town house with 37-foot ceilings and a rooftop garden used serve as a nightlife institution for the jet set while it was owned by Halston. The house is currently selling for $38.5 Million …

Funny how this finding today reminds me of cool teenage memories. Now here comes nostalgia ! …
