Melissa Hruskaa has a long held passion for Scandinavian inspired decor, considerate to small scaled spaces. She designs and creates incredibly elegant geometric ‘Himmeli’ mobiles, hanging planters and lighting accessories, made of brass or copper. Himmeli are beautiful geometric sculptures named from the Swedish word ‘himmel‘ meaning sky or heaven. These were created to celebrate the beginning of Winter Solstice and served as a means of good fortune for the future.
The entire collection is offered in the HRUSKAA shop via Etsy.
“I’ve applied my experience from the design world and focused efforts on creating a minimalist influenced product which is considerate to even the smallest of spaces. This is important aspect for me incorporate as I believe everyone deserves beautiful pieces to showcase in their home. Inspiration is drawn from surrounding myself with people who challenge my thoughts and objects which add to my life story.” Melissa Hruskaa.
“Built with stalks of straw grown from the prior years harvest, they would be prominently displayed in the main room of the cottage. It was thought the larger the himmeli crafted the more prosperous the following season’s crop would be. Many regions throughout North and Central Europe have their version of the himmeli as well. They range from a simple straw design to an elaborate array of geometric shapes adorned with feathers, paper flowers, and even candles. Although their tradition is to be displayed during the holidays, we find their modern aesthetic to be the perfect minimalist decor year round.”
