As member of Paris fair Maison&Objet‘s jury, I had the pleasure to award the “Les Découvertes” prize for the international home design sector Now! Design à Vivre.
Les Découvertes (i.e. the discoveries) rewards the most impressive or noticeable new products created by newcomers to the scene. I chose to award the distinction to the Lace stool created by French designer and growing star Benjamin Graindorge for Cinna. As with all of his previous projects, Benjamin Graindorge brings us a simple yet original product with a true poetic personality.

Details make all the difference! Less deep and slightly narrower at the base, Lace is very light in appearance. Its personality springs from the thin cord which runs around and through it, to give it an elegant appearance.

Inspired by the idea of travelling, Lace looks like a well tied-up and small duffel bag – a detail that surely seduced me because of my recents world travels …. Knowing Japan so well, Benjamin Graindorge has also been inspired by the Japanese art of bondage – shibari.
