Milan-based designer Giorgio Bonaguro has sent me images of a family of stools he designed in collaboration with new Italian brand Icons Furniture. Alfiere, Regina and Pedone stools are inspired by the shapes and characteristics of chess pawns.
Made of solid scented cedarwood with semi-artisanal techniques and processes, Alfiere ( the “Bishop” in Italian) features a geometric form, interrupted by a large diagonal cut which acts as a magazine rack, the “moving” Regina (the “Queen”) has a more “aristocratic” and imposing shape, whilst Pedone (the “Pawn”) is a rounded and simple stool.
